Keeping moonshine in plastic bottles is not recommended. There are much safer and more aesthetic materials, such as glass. You can use curly bottles, create your own label design and serve homemade alcohol to the festive table as an elite one, without worrying about its quality.
What to keep moonshine
Improper storage of alcohol at home is one of the most popular causes of failure in this business. The taste of alcohol even depends on the glass in which it is served, but what about the bottle in which a strong drink is stored for months or even years? That is why plastic is not the best solution for moonshine.
A few words about plastic: a cheap bottle will begin to release toxic substances over time. Even neutral drinking water is not recommended to be stored in a plastic bottle, and alcohol usually causes an unexpected chemical reaction. Do not be fooled by the cheapness of the material and the predominance of plastic bottles of alcohol in stores, better think about safety and clean taste.
Important
In a plastic bottle, alcohol not only acquires a nasty taste and becomes cloudy, but also becomes hazardous to health: toxic substances begin to stand out from the walls of the bottle.
In which containers to store home-brew:
- It is best to keep alcohol in a glass bottle or jar. Glass does not react with alcohol, and you do not have to worry about the quality of the drink. It will be correctly stored moonshine in containers of dark glass.
- Connoisseurs of alcohol stand it in an aspen or oak barrel. There moonshine gains an exquisite golden hue. But such containers are not suitable for storage. They are expensive, require special conditions, and even overexposed moonshine in them becomes tough.
Moonshine is a crystal clear liquid, so turbidity and sediment in the form of flakes are signs of spoilage. This drink can not be consumed.
If there are no alternatives besides plastic, make sure you use a bottle labeled PET - a durable plastic that is recyclable. But try to transfer the contents to a more suitable container within a week. We recommend that you use glass: it is allowed to take already used bottles from store drinks or buy new ones.
Another ban applies to the storage of alcohol in an aluminum flask and galvanized dishes. Storage in stainless steel tanks is allowed.
How to store moonshine at home
Try to provide shading at home: the sun's rays adversely affect the taste and color of alcohol. Place the bottles in a dark cabinet. No wonder connoisseurs prefer special cellars.
Advice from the magazine "Miss Clean": to protect the moonshine in a transparent glass bottle, wrap the container with foil or thick paper.
Alcohol is well stored at room temperature, it does not need a refrigerator. If the apartment is too warm (above 20 degrees), you can not clutter up the household appliance, but place the bottles in a cool cellar. You can use the refrigerator, but not necessarily. But the freezer is not recommended for storage.
Tip
Try to avoid sudden changes in temperature in the place where moonshine stands.
How long is home brew kept? In suitable conditions, a strong drink will last up to five years, drinks based on moonshine - two years.
About cork
Plastic corks will not affect the quality of the drink. Use ordinary corks or elements with a dispenser. Remember to close the bottle tightly.
Tip
The same rules should be followed when storing homemade cognac and other strong drinks.
Home production should be approached responsibly if you want to enjoy the exquisite taste of drinks. Let the purest home-made moonshine, which was properly stored, be your reason for pride. But do not forget that even the highest quality alcohol with excessive consumption is harmful to health.
